The Burning Hammer is an inverted Death Valley Driver invented by Kotetsu Yamamoto back in the 1970s. It later became the signature move of All Japan Pro Wrestling star Kenta Kobashi who made it famous.

Tyler Reks attempted to make the Burning Hammer his finisher in WWE, but the maneuver soon made its way onto the banned list. There are conflicting reports as to why Reks wasn’t allowed to use it. There is no question that the move is dangerous because the opponent is put in a difficult position to have body control.

However, during an interview with The Hannibal TV, Reks claimed it was John Cena that had the Burning Hammer put on the shelf. He said Cena thought it was too much like his finisher, the Attitude Adjustment. Interestingly, versions of the Burning Hammer have been used in WWE in recent years by Brian Kendrick and Bianca Belair, which helps back up Reks' story.
