3. AJ Styles Vs. Dean Ambrose (2016)
It was 2016, AJ Styles had landed, and the fans wanted more. A rise to title status was a given, but it was important that it was done right. The match at Backlash provided, and was an outright triumph for the blue brand.
Still a fresh baby face, and full of life, Dean Ambrose proved himself to be the man for the job. Sure he was going to lose the belt, but he was going to lose it with class. In wonderfully rich 30-minute event, brawl met technical brains, chemistry was through the roof, and the selfless high-risk escapades of both competitors ensured that they had the audiences' full attention for the entire duration.
Alas the crowd were mostly backing a notably devious AJ, despite the fact that he low-blowed his way to victory. It didn't matter at this point, as both competitors put bone, brain and guts into their performances. It proved that while the promotion was struggling, the quality of talent was unquestionable. The 'This is Awesome' chant was well earned.
Watching back, it reminds us why these guys, in their own separate quarters, are still on top.
