12. Roman Reigns VS. Samoa Joe (2018)

Any occasion to see Samoa Joe work his magic can be considered a special event, but this match needed more than that. During that frustrating period when Reigns was being pushed too fast too quickly, there was at least the opportunity to give Samoa Joe the spotlight. In this instance at least, it all went a bit wrong.

Absolutely nothing of note happens in this match. It entails Joe beating all kinds of crap out of Reigns, with Roman only managing the cheapest of shots in return. It ends with the Big Dog obtaining a sly finisher, which incapacitates Joe and allows Reigns to get the three-count and retain the title. It made no sense.

Seeing Joe work his relentless brutality was easily a highlight, and his wrestling was on top form, but the one sided-nature of the match put into question the very reason for Roman's existence as a top baby face. It quickly earned itself a "This is boring" chant.

WWE had not yet gathered the message that this was not what fans wanted. It was anti-climactic on virtually every level.
