A common theme on this list is a strong main event, even in most of the weaker shows in Backlash's history. Unfortunately, 2002 bucked this trend in a big way, as Hulk Hogan defeated Triple H to scoop the WWF Undisputed Championship.

The face vs. face encounter was understandably plodding, despite The Game's best efforts, and certainly wasn't helped by the separate interferences of Chris Jericho and The Undertaker.

Further down the card, Austin and 'Taker went almost 30 minutes in a chore of a no. 1 contender's match - ending with a deflating Undertaker win despite Stone Cold's foot being on the ropes.

The show was saved from being arguably the worst in the history of the event by a pair of entertaining undercard bouts: Kurt Angle vs. Edge and Eddie Guerrero vs. Rob Van Dam. Fans also saw the terrifying in-ring debut of Brock Lesnar, who defeated Jeff Hardy by referee stoppage in about five minutes.
