8. John Cena Vs Edge (2009)

'The Champ' and 'The Rated-R Superstar' brought their fantastic chemistry to their first singles pay-per-view main event in nearly two years as a follow-up to an underwhelming triple threat including The Big Show the prior month.

The dramatic and underrated show-closer went nearly half an hour, forced to carry a show badly lacking in star power and interesting conflicts in the wake of a disappointing WrestleMania card.

Fought under Last Man Standing rules, the match played with their shared knowledge and disdain for one another, with a lengthy opening section reliant on wits rather than violence as both men dodged devastating moves they'd suffered in the past.

On commentary, Michael Cole noted how the pair utilised a 'traditional collar and elbow tie-up to start this untraditional match' whilst Jim Ross bullishly insisted that the 'fight was on'. They were both correct.

Eventually, the battle degenerated into a weapons brawl, with Edge focussing extensively (but safely) on Cena's head to try and knock him out for the decisive ten count. Cena fought back with typical aplomb, memorably launching the steel steps over the top rope to the prone challenger on the floor.

After a litany of big moves couldn't polish either man off, the battle raged onto the stage, where an Edge conchairto still couldn't finish the job. Uncharacteristically, fans chanted Cena back to life, but an interfering Big Show chokeslammed 'The Champ' into an exploding spotlight for a spectacular conclusion.
