The Phenom’s year-long quest for the remnants of his urn came to an end in December 1995 when he met King Mabel in a Casket Match. The encounter was unusually brief, but this was definitely a case of keeping it short and sweet. The brevity of it allowed a lot to happen in a short space of time and kept the novelty of the match alive, without having it drag on like previous “big men” matches.

Like all Casket Matches during this era, just seeing The Undertaker and the casket together was enough to create that supernatural aura. But as this was the end of his year-long storyline, there was something more apocalyptic about this one. Perhaps it was the Phantom of the Opera mask he wore to protect his injured orbital socket, or the quest for the urn. Either way, the storytelling here certainly elevated an otherwise average match.
