Daniel Bryan and Kane’s year-long rivalry culminated in a rare Casket Match on SmackDown. With plenty of story behind this feud, this should have been the perfect way for things to end. But with Demon Kane under The Authority’s control, we got Corporate Kane instead. And the image of an angry authority figure in slacks doesn’t work quite as well around caskets as a fire-breathing monster. As a result, the casket gimmick felt somewhat unnecessary as there were plenty of other match types that would have been equally effective feud-finishers. Moreover, it was ridiculous to see Kane intimidated by the casket, especially since he made a career out of popping out of them.

What this match lacked in mystique, it made up for in action. Due to Bryan’s involvement, the pace was a lot faster than your average Casket Match. There were plenty of high-flying Bryan moments that kept the viewers entertained, while the Casket Match veteran Kane served as the perfect antagonist by dominating most of the match. The drama was also high throughout as there was an abundance of near-wins for both competitors.

This was the first Casket Match in seven years and, on wrestling alone, it didn't disappoint. Bryan and Kane always worked well together and, although this wasn’t their best outing, it was a lot of fun to watch and a worthy main event.
