13. The Undertaker Vs. Kamala – Survivor Series 1992

The inaugural Casket Match was a little bit different from its modern day iteration. Initially named a Coffin Match, the bout ended after you successfully pinned your opponent, rolled them into the coffin and nailed the lid shut. While it worked at the time, it did seem rather complicated and was soon altered to the much simpler format of the Casket Match.

The match wasn’t exactly spectacular. As it took place during The Undertaker’s Western mortician days, he was rather limited by the gimmick and as a result, couldn’t show us what he was truly capable of. So, a lot of the match involved The Phenom slowly stalking Kamala both inside and outside the ring, making for a slow, plodding, one-sided affair. It was however rife with gimmicky moments and Kamala sold the heck out of this, conveying every ounce of fear you would expect to see from someone in this grave situation.

This one holds a special place in our hearts as the one that started it all. Although it wasn’t a showstopping wrestling match, the sheer novelty of what we were witnessing helps set this one apart from all the others.
