In the early '90s, the government was investigating the WWF for steroid distribution. Vince McMahon was in a conundrum, as he was faced with the prospect of losing his beloved big, sweaty men. Thankfully, the large Samoan Yokozuna, who while big and sweaty was clearly not on any steroids, was there to satiate Vince's appetite. While not the best wrestler, Yokozuna should get credit for being one of the longest-reigning heel champions in WWE history.

Usually, Vince’s philosophy was to get the belt off of heels as quickly as possible and allow his top babyface to have a long, uninterrupted title reign. For Yokozuna to sit atop the WWF from June of 1993 all the way to WrestleMania is quite the feat, and it set a precedent for other future long-term heel champions such as Triple H and Edge, giving them long reigns that would result in a more satisfying victory for the babyfaces who would eventually defeat them.

Yoko wouldn’t have the most illustrious career after eventually losing to Bret Hart at WrestleMania X, but at least for a brief period, he was the ultimate dragon to slay in WWE.
