And at last we come to him. The Champ is here.

We're coming at an interesting time in wrestling fandom. On one half, you have the older set of fans from the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras who took a sabbatical from wrestling due in no small part to WWE centering itself around John Cena and his winning ways. The other half are a younger crop who were more or less raised on Cena, and associated him with wrestling the way our parents did Hogan and their parents did Bruno.

Regardless of how you feel about him then and now, it's undeniable that in the 2000s, through five reigns over 863 total days, Cena was the man who stabilized WWE after the company lost its Attitude Era stalwarts Rock and Austin. As champion, Cena moved merchandise, kept ratings steady, and became an iconic part of WWE history as he achieved key victories over past superstars such as Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

Truly, Cena was the last man the company ever put their full faith behind. Sure, Roman Reigns has won the WWE Championship, but his longest reign was a few months, and that was over two years ago. Cena's run in the 2000s is proof that the championship matters when WWE makes it matter. Because they made it matter with him, Cena was the best champion of the decade.
