Every WWE Clash Of Champions Match Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Sheamus Vs. Cesaro (2016)
This is the definitive example of a non finish on PPV not being inherently bad. This was not a rivalry or a match built on victory, but on respect through punishment.
Cesaro and Sheamus worked a brutal match, with Sheamus refusing to hold back on his notoriously stiff strikes and Cesaro hitting uppercuts with his full force. The two battered and bruised each other before things escalated to an exceptional degree, with Cesaro's infamous botched suicide dive adding a sense of vitality to the match. These men would literally risk breaking their own necks if it meant taking down their opponent in the process.
Wrestling’s modern ways of storytelling is so often built from incidents outside of the ring that it’s refreshing to see a narrative that lives and dies inside the ring. There is nothing more to these men than bloodlust, than the desire to break the other to be considered the best fighter in the company. They would rather both lose the match than win in a disrespectful way, destined to prove themselves as equals after putting everything on the line.
This is a modern masterpiece and easily the peak of the Clash of Champions event so far, and hopefully these two will get the chance to show their chemistry off again in the future.
