17. Charlotte Flair Vs. Natalya (2017)
Charlotte Flair and Natalya are capable of true greatness in the ring together, with fantastic matches between the pair in NXT impressing even years later.
Unfortunately, the two were stuck in a Lumberjill stipulation during a particularly empty time for the SmackDown women's division, creating this sense of emptiness throughout the match. The contrast between the overwhelming lighting of 2017 SmackDown‘s aesthetic, the mostly dead crowd and the minuscule amount of lumberjacks is weirdly depressing to watch, especially years later.
The two didn't do much to differ from their previous matches that year, and while it clearly established Charlotte as the top women's face on SmackDown, it sadly didn't deliver as much as it could have. They mostly repeated the narrative of their fantastic SmackDown match from earlier that year and despite physical performances from the pair, they weren’t able to elevate the contest to more than a mediocre PPV offering.
It’s a shame that their feud got burned out by overexposure since their NXT TakeOver match is a minor classic. Sadly, them and the rest of the SmackDown women’s division at the time, were let down by creative.
