Every WWE Clash Of Champions Match Ranked From Worst To Best
16. AJ Styles Vs. Jinder Mahal (2017)
A mediocre rematch of a surprisingly excellent television contest, AJ and Jinder's main event for the WWE title went on for far too long without enough of a concrete narrative or dynamic offence to keep audiences invested.
While their initial match had the sensation of an upset, the result here was inevitable and Styles didn't put the same amount of enthusiasm in this defence as he did weeks previously. AJ’s world title reign was notably inconsistent on PPV, and this was the first example of his natural abilities not always being enough to create a good match.
Jinder has never been the strongest in ring but his efforts here to deliver in the main event slot are worth respecting, even if it didn't result in a very good match. He clearly worked hard to be Styles’ equal across the 23 minute match but his lack of experience of working matches this long showed hard by the finishing stretch.
Overall, it was serviceable but a deflating way to end a PPV and fell flat compared to what the two had achieved together beforehand.
