Every WWE Extreme Rules Main Event Ranked Worst To Best
2. Edge Vs. Jeff Hardy (2009)
In spite of the fact that, in theory, we'd seen it all before, these two veterans of high risk went out their way to remind everyone of their relevance. Extreme Rules was a brand new pay per view and needed the right main event to justify its existence... It had it.
Being experienced workers and having intuitive knowledge of each other allowed Jeff Hardy and Edge to play into fan expectations and surprise accordingly. Take the iconic mid-air spear, which was swiftly countered by a twist of fate, as a prime example of this. The match's climax, which involved Edge getting snared in Jeff's weapon of choice, the ladder, was nothing short of poetic.
It was also a marked occasion where Money in The Bank cash-ins added to the thrill rather than detracted. In the short breadth of his villainous intervention, CM Punk exuded enough personality to state himself as the new equal to Edge and Jeff. In some ways, it was a passing of the torch.
Bravo to all involved.
