1. John Cena Vs. Brock Lesnar (2012)

What we have seen recently in WWE, and in no place less than Extreme Rules, is an unnecessary bombardment of stipulations and loopholes which fail to add anything besides frustration. Conclusion: The simpler things are often the better things are.

In 2012, Brock Lesnar returned and commenced his long-running tradition of pushing PG Era standards of brutality to the limit. In just a few strikes, his UFC-seasoned elbows on Cena's head blurred the lines of kayfabe and reality. Was this violent? Hell yes. Extreme? By default.

His comeback and quest for domination pretty much spoke for itself, but Cena also had his own story in this. Undergoing the first portion of his year-long sulk after losing to The Rock at WrestleMania, Cena's mission was to purge the excesses of his frustration, whilst enduring a cathartic beat-down from The Beast.

The resulting blood, rage and pain emitted during this event upheld the standard, remained bereft of cliche, and through the carnal passion of both Lesnar and Cena, became an instant match for the ages.

It did what it said on the tin, but with a level of purity nobody expected.
