6. Roman Reigns Vs. AJ Styles (2016)

CM Punk Extreme Rules 2009
WWE

Just five months into his WWE tenure, AJ Styles was an entrenched contender to the World Heavyweight Championship, and Extreme Rules saw Round 2 of his battle with Roman Reigns to take the belt. In this match, the intensity was taken to an enjoyably high level, with both athletes bringing hard knocks to the forefront. The bout spilled out into the crowd, announcement tables crumbled, and both men looked beaten to sh*t by the end of it.

On pushing himself to the centre of attention, Roman's desperation to beat AJ also made for good storytelling as he almost, quite literally, lost face. On a downside, endless interference from Gallows, Anderson and The Usos risked making the whole affair tiresome. One interjection neutralised the other, and Reigns and Styles were brawling well enough without it. Luckily the two contenders continued to do just that.

Complaints aside, this match was as pure a definition of solid as any. Naturally, fans wanted AJ to win, but the returning Seth Rollins, in all his mean-ass heel glory, did its bit to dispel the disappointment.
