Say what you will about how Miz was booked after cashing in on Randy Orton to win the WWE Championship, at least he got to be in the main event of WrestleMania as a result, hence his high ranking.

And to his credit: Miz, being one of the best heels in the business, was able to make himself truly detestable in his role as an egotistical coward who didn’t deserve to be champion.

But that was the problem: WWE never booked him as someone who deserved to be champion. He won his matches thanks to interference, and in terms of opponents, he feuded against the likes of Jerry Lawler. When the time came to build for his match with John Cena at WrestleMania, he played third banana to Cena and The Rock, who helped Miz defeat Cena to retain his title. Once Miz dropped the title to Cena the next month, his stock gradually fell. After toiling in the mid-to-lower card for years, he eventually found a career resurgence with his wife Maryse at his side.

While Miz is a viable midcard presence now, however, it’s safe to say he and his fans wish he could reach the heights he did in 2011 again.
