Stipulation-based PPVs don’t work. Unless your stipulation is the Elimination Chamber or the Royal Rumble, and that match is going to feature once on the card, shoehorning weapons and rulesets into feuds where they don’t belong is a bad idea.

Having said that, Smackdown Live managed to build enough of its feuds to the point where Tables, Ladders and Chairs (but not stairs, never stairs) felt like they were warranted. AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose was an absolute barn-burning spot-fest, and thanks to the added interruption of James Ellsworth, it was full of high drama and unpredictable twists.

The Miz and Ziggler saw out their stellar feud in style, while Baron Corbin and Kalisto did the unthinkable: they has a good chairs match. Outside of an overly gimmicky match between Nikki Bella and Carmella, this was a solid showing, one that also saw The Wyatt Family pick up tag team gold.
