7. Payback

Payback seemed doomed from the start, considering its job was to follow a strange and widely derided WrestleMania, and because its advertised stars, The Wyatt Family, were not actually scheduled to appear.

It was miraculous, then, that Payback managed to be a highly enjoyable event, albeit one with some considerable flaws. AJ Styles and Roman Reigns had the first of a pair of scintillating PPV main events, Owens & Zayn, and Cesaro & Miz both put on solid bouts, and Kalisto and Ryback managed to deliver an underrated pre-show clash.

Still, the absence of the Wyatt’s hurt Payback, as did a clueless repeat of the Montreal Screwjob, and the unfortunate ‘technical knockout’ of Enzo Amore.
