9. No Mercy
If there’s one thing No Mercy did better than its peers and rivals, it was branding. Focusing on The Miz and Maryse was the best decision, and the way the show’s posters and trailers mimicked perfume adverts (with Maryse’s ‘Non merci’ voiceover) was truly inspired.
The show itself was a solid, experimental one, featuring a fantastic ‘Main Event’ triple threat WWE title match as match number one, and a dull slog between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton as the real main event. The decision to put the WWE title match on first seemed wise at first, because everyone assumed it was so The Miz vs Ziggler could go on last, considering how well their Backlash encounter went over with the crowd.
Unfortunately, this was not to be, and while The Miz vs Ziggler was the absolute standout of the evening, No Mercy’s final one-two punch of Naomi vs Alexa Bliss and Orton vs Wyatt left an otherwise good show feeling cold.
