Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)
24. Gran Metalik
Then: Lince's buddy Gran Metalik was another who struggled to really make an impact on WWE. He signed a full-time deal with the company in 2016, but initially thought he'd only be working matches in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. Instead, management had more in mind for him than that.
Not much more though.
Metalik bounced around as a Cruiserweight worker for a few years before forming Lucha House Party with Kalisto and Dorado. As aforementioned, whilst that union did extend a few runs in the company it...didn't lead to anything truly worthwhile for the trio. They were on the bottom rung of factions, and ended once the likes of Metalik left in November 2021.
Now: Gran Metalik has also been known as Máscara Dorada in CMLL throughout his career. Success there put him on the radar of Tony Khan and AEW - Metalik has been an on and off part of the Mexican promotion's affiliation with All Elite circles over the past number of years.
However, his ties to CMLL ended in 2023. That didn't stop Khan from booking the lucha man in further matches on shows like Rampage and ROH, but he'd never progress beyond that onto bigger broadcasts. At least not full time.
Since hopes of a bigger AEW run faded, Metalik has been working mainly on independent shows and is still busy with bookings in 2026. Who knows? Maybe he'll return to the WWE fold as a trainer at the Performance Center himself one day. That'd be a good spot for him next to old pal Lince.
