Although all four of these guys are (or will be) Hall of Famers, only Bret Hart was in peak form during this period. Shawn Michaels was still in his midcard proto-Ziggler phase, Luger was twisting in the wind as Hulk Hogan II, and Fatu hadn't even purchased his first thong yet. I mean, I hope he hadn't... This Rumble is most famous for its unique finish, wherein Hart and Luger tumbled over the ropes together and were declared co-winners. It may seem like a cop-out, but it was actually a very elegant solution to the thorny issue of replacing Hogan as top face. He was still everyone's top choice, but if he couldn't get it together by WrestleMania, they could just give the big moment to Bret. One wonders where that kind of booking flexibility has gone, no?
