Remember when Rusev was first drafted to SmackDown and WWE teased he'd go after the WWE Championship all the way back in 2017? Oh well, shame on us for dreaming.
After being one third of the surprisingly amazing group known as Rusev Day, Rusev defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to win his third U.S. Championship on the Christmas episode of SmackDown LIVE - or SmackDown TAPED in that week's case.
He lost the belt back to Shinsuke at the Royal Rumble pre-show in January 2019, starting a team with Nakamura immediately afterwards, because why the hell not.
