This one was easily the most difficult to place. Bayley’s second reign with the Smackdown’s women’s title has ranged from inspired greatness and a resurgence of momentum to turgid contests and lack of proper establishment as champion.

The first few months as a heel were rough, her great undervalued run as a face throughout the summer of 2019 had proved how hard she could still go, but throwing that all away for minimal heel offence did not pay off at first. Her promos, new aesthetic and move-set weren’t fun or interesting to watch, with her matches with Charlotte and especially Lacey Evans being notable failures.

Bayley’s most fundamental issue as top champion is that she’s had no real defining feuds or moments in the few months since she won, not even getting a singles match at empty arena 'Mania last month. She’s been defined by a future feud with Sasha that’s going to be amazing if it’s allowed to happen this time, but if that doesn’t pay off, then her heel run will age poorly.

However, following the Royal Rumble event, her heel run seemed to click more into gear, giving Carmella her best match on Smackdown, delivering in the multi woman contest at Mania and cutting genuinely hilarious committed promos and backstage segments. Hopefully her reign will continue and finally gift us the main roster PPV Bayley vs. Sasha singles match that has been desired for 4 years.
