The inaugural reign for the Smackdown’s women’s title wasn’t the most remarkable introduction a belt has ever had, but it was a beautiful start at a time of genuine hope for the women’s division. Becky Lynch’s win in the Six Pack Challenge match at Backlash 2016 was far from perfect and deserved a tournament like the Smackdown tag belts got, but the match was fun and the moment of the least heralded Horsewoman (at the time) getting to hold her own title created such intense optimism.

Unfortunately, it felt like the company was never fully behind Becky, a feeling that continued until her failed heel turn in 2018. She was doing good work on TV, doing a solid job at establishing a new title but her reign had less focus on Smackdown than James Ellsworth did. Add to the fact that it was shorter than most expected, not even lasting to the Royal Rumble PPV, and many aspects of it were disappointing.

However, it gets its place here because of how it solidified 'The Lass Kicker' as someone who could sustain popularity on top, even after a few months of a title reign, fans still wanted her on top and to see more of her in the spotlight, which eventually lead to her current dominance on Raw as 'The Man.' The big matches that she did have delivered, and ensured that her reign was a success overall in spite of creative misdirection.
