On a number of occasions already, mention has been made of notable happenings at the Survivor Series. 'Notable' isn't strong enough a word to use when describing the end of the 1997 event. As everybody knows, this was the night of the infamous Montreal Screwjob which saw Vince McMahon and forcibly remove the World Title from Bret Hart in front of a Canadian crowd.

What else was on the show? Does it matter? Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Owen Hart in a short match for the Intercontinental Championship, there were a number of elimination matches, and Kane beat Mankind. None of it is worth going out of your way to watch.

If you are a young fan who has no idea what a Montreal Screwjob is, close this window and go watch the end of this show. It is perhaps the most notable moment in WWE history.

A strange one this. Despite having a decent card on paper, every match went under 14-minutes, meaning nothing had chance to fall into a groove and find a rhythm. A sequence of short matches is jarring anyway, but when three of these matches are elimination matches the frequent pinfalls can be a bit too much.

The main event saw Batista defeat King Booker for the World Heavyweight Championship, but the show is best remembered (ironically) for Shawn Michaels eliminating Mike Knox just 40 seconds into the Team DX vs. Team Rated RKO elimination match, before asking who he had just superkicked.

The show also saw a not-quite-ready Mr. Kennedy defeat The Undertaker in a First Blood match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
