Jim Johnston, WWE's old musical maestro, goes in on the company's dull modern themes...

WWE's entrance themes haven't been the same since the company cruelly cut ties with long-time in-house music producer Jim Johnston in November 2017 - and Johnston agrees.

The veteran composer was recently interviewed by Lucha Libre Online's Michael Morales. The conversation saw him say the following on the current state of WWE's entrance themes (h/t Sportskeeda for the transcription):-

"While I told you before this interview that I don’t do trash talking, but the closest I’ll get to being critical, is that, absolutely, I want to slap Vince upside the head. The music is so bad! These days it's just sound effects and noises and stuff. It doesn’t have anything to do with the characters and the storylines anymore. That’s the essence of this business... And that’s currently lost. I don’t get it."

Johnston went on, admitting that he takes a "certain satisfaction" from the poor state of today's themes, saying that while he feels bad for the wrestlers, it makes him feel better about what he contributed in his 32 years with the promotion.

An appearance at the inaugural Starrcast convention in 2018 aside, Johnston has effectively left the wrestling business since WWE let him go. He had worked for the promotion from 1985, creating some of the company's most iconic themes throughout his tenure, including those of Vince McMahon, Steve Austin, and The Rock.

WWE had phased Johnston out prior to his departure, having brought CFO$ in as the new in-house team in 2014. The promotion has since ended its relationship with CFO$ as well.
