Exclusive Ken Shamrock Interview: Triple H Isn't The Man To Run WWE

4. Shamrock On Not Being The Champion

WWE.comWWE.comAG: To a wrestling fan, you had all the tools to become the top guy in the company, since you had a good year in the WWE after winning the King of the Ring, the IC title and after being involved in major storylines. Can you please shed some light on the factors you believe that kept you away from the WWE title?KS: Well, I thought I did enough. I mean, I came from the MMA world where it was about getting out there and winning, and then to be able to take to pro wrestling, no one had been able to do that and I did it. And, then being able to do that and other things that they asked me to do and then not being able to get that shot, it was disappointing. It got to a point where not only was I getting a shot, but they started beating me and I was starting to go backwards. That is when I had enough and thought that I had worked way too long to become a champion. When I was younger I'd been on the streets to going to group homes, going to the juvenile system, fighting my way through school because I didn't have an education, going and playing football in order to go to school, to getting out and fighting through adversity... injuries, broken necks, different things before I got started professionally. Then being in the MMA world with a very rookie mentality wherein I didn't know what they did but because of my mental toughness and street mentality, becoming a champion, transitioning into pro wrestling and rising to the top and to all of a sudden having my knees cut off...I couldn't let myself to be put in that position after all the work I had to do to get there, I couldn't let anybody take that from me.
