Former WWE Champion Launches New Promotion
More competition for WWE?
Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio has teamed with former WWE Tag Team Champion Chavo Guerrero to launch a new promotion, Nacion Lucha Libre.
Three years after Del Rio's departure from WWE due to "creative differences", he has formed NLL which will have it's first show, 'La Batalla Inicial', on 11th July in Mexico City.
Numerous high-profile wrestlers have already been confirmed for the event, including MVP, Carlito, Del Rio's former ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, LAX, and Pentagon. ADR even teased fans that he may be soon hiring some current WWE Superstars, no doubt in relation to the reported news that WWE's backstage morale is at an all-time low, with numerous wrestlers requesting their release.
The independent lucha libra scene has seen a resurgence in Mexico recently, and with Del Rio & Guerrero's company announcing a Mexican television deal, they could be set to challenge the likes of AAA and CMLL.
The news of another new promotion is fantastic for fans who have already witnessed the impact of the arrival of All Elite Wrestling in the industry. After years of crying out for legitimate competition for WWE, it seems as though we're finally getting it.
