Goldberg Confirmed For WWE Raw Jan 2nd

The Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida - site of the January 2, 2017 episode of Raw - has announced that Goldberg will be appearing on the live show. This will mark his first appearance since declaring he would compete in January 29's Royal Rumble match.

Goldberg returned to WWE in October for the first time in over 12 years, responding to Paul Heyman's open challenge on behalf of Brock Lesnar. A bout between the two was soon signed for Survivor Series, with many expecting that Lesnar would finally get revenge for his loss to the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XX. Instead, the world was shocked when Goldberg dominated "The Beast," finishing him off with two spears and a Jackhammer in under 90 seconds.

Reportedly, the decision to put Goldberg over in dominant fashion was made after the star agreed to work future dates with the company. The evening after Survivor Series, Goldberg took to Raw to announce that he was after the Universal Title, and as such, he would be competing in the Royal Rumble match. The next week on Raw, Heyman appeared to confirm that Lesnar would also be entering the match. It is expected that the Royal Rumble will serve to set up a third bout between the two men for WrestleMania 33.
