Goldberg's 10 Best Moments Ever
2. Halloween Havoc '98
Goldberg’s best match ever was at Halloween Havoc '98. It's not even close: it's probably the only match of his career that you could label as great.
It was a babyface vs. babyface showdown, with DDP claiming that he knew the secret to beating Goldberg. The two were given the unenviable task of going after the all-time dud of Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan, and were having to deal with wrestling after the company went over their allotted pay-per-view time. But when the bell rang, they immediately had the crowd in the palm of their hands.
It was a big night for Goldberg, as he needed to prove he could perform in the main event of a pay-per-view, as he was most often used on the mid-card to that point (despite being the most over talent on the show by far).
Coming into that match Goldberg had never been pinned, but at Halloween Havoc, Page came damn close. He hit a fantastic Diamond Cutter after reversing out of the Jackhammer, and the crowd exploded in response. It wasn’t enough to pick up the win, but it was the first time we had truly thought Goldberg might lose.
The two had a couple of rematches later in their WCW careers, but nothing came close to capturing the magic and intensity they put on that night. Had the company booked Goldberg with great opponents like that in big pay-per-view matches, they likely could have staved off their extinction much longer.
