How AEW’s Secret Weapon Must Return
This second fantasy booking scenario also allows Penta to mount a singles run without the shadow of his brother looming over him.
When it was revealed that Fénix couldn't work the Eliminator semi-final, most were disappointed - this, despite AEW serving up a quite incredible replacement match that didn't just make sense in storylines but advanced a storyline. Kenny Omega Vs. Penta El Zero Miedo was a spectacular match...
...but it wasn't Kenny Omega Vs. Fénix.
Penta is cursed with something exceptionally cruel. He's amazing, but he's not quite as amazing as his brother. A crack at the singles division, without Fénix doing so in parallel, might lift that curse and allow fans to enjoy and savour it free of the comparison.
It's PAC. He could work a ham-and-egger on Dark, and it would still be outstanding. But however his return manifests, there's a lesson in just how many routes AEW have paved for themselves: if a promotion recognises connections between its characters in a shared universe, and acknowledges continuity, that path will come to pave itself.
Do the work.
