How WWE Are Quietly Building Their Next Main Event Megastar

WWE rarely present their antagonists in such a light. Even Brock Lesnar, the undisputed baddest man in the company, gives in to cowardice from time to time. McIntyre obviously isn't being treated on 'The Beast Incarnate's' special level yet, but he is being presented as an unflappable tough guy with no fear of even WWE's most imposing brutes (appropriate, given that Drew is one himself). It's as refreshing as it is effective as it is straightforward.

In the wake of Roman Reigns' leukaemia returning, Strowman is the favourite to walk away with the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel. Given the way WWE have built his rivalry with McIntyre, it looks like we're set for an awesome collision between two of the most electric Superstars on Raw, with both slotted into roles that perfectly fit their characters.

By all accounts, Braun has been playing babyface on the house show circuit as of late, and appeared to return to his old role when confronting Paul Heyman on this week's Raw. He, like Drew, isn't going to give an inch. This means we're set for a colossal showdown between a very non-WWE babyface and a very non-WWE heel, and while 'The Monster Among Men's' match quality varies greatly depending on the opponent, the potential feud's optimistic prognosis has been earned.

Losing to Braun wouldn't be the end of the world for Drew, either. It all feeds into his push's other great triumph: the slow burn.
