Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat will be on tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite.

Company founder and CEO Tony Khan confirmed the news on Tuesday, stating that Steamboat will serve as a special guest timekeeper. It is currently unclear if this is to be for the entire show or a specific match, however.

Khan used Twitter for the announcement:-

Steamboat's appearance is fitting, given Dynamite's theme. This show will be a tie-in with the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff series, House of the Dragon, which debuts on HBO this Sunday (23 August). HBO, like TBS (which Dynamite currently airs on), is a Warner Bros. Discovery platform, hence the crossover.

Continuing the theme is a best 2 out of 3 falls main event pitting 'The American Dragon' Bryan Danielson against Daniel Garcia, who is being billed 'The Dragon Slayer' for the occasion. Garcia previously defeated Danielson in an acclaimed main event on the special 27 July Fight for the Fallen episode of Dynamite.

Steamboat, 69, is considered amongst the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, having risen to prominence in the 1970s before reaching new levels of acclaim the following decade. A former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, he is known for his iconic series of matches with Ric Flair and pivotal work as one of the sport's most effective babyfaces ever.
