CM Punk believes he "wasted some matches on some people" in AEW, revealing as much while answering what he described as a "loaded question" in a new interview with Cheap Heat's Peter Rosenberg.

At ComplexCon in Las Vegas, Nevada this past weekend, Rosenberg asked Punk if he had "any regrets from AEW with regard to matches that didn't happen or stories that didn't get told", noting, specifically, that he wasn't referencing the infamous post-All Out 2022, which ultimately led to Punk's relationship with AEW dissolving.

"It's such a loaded question," said Punk.

Rosenberg reframed it: "Was there someone you didn't get to tell a story with that you would've liked to have told a story with?"

"No," said Punk. "I feel like I wasted some matches on some people for sure, but that is what it is. Some people understand the business, some people don't, you know? And I think everybody here understands the business."

Punk infamously aimed 'Hangman' Adam Page, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega after All Out 2022, sparking a backstage confrontation that resulted in indefinite suspensions for Punk, Omega, the Bucks, and other present parties Ace Steel and Christopher Daniels. Although Punk eventually returned to AEW, he was out of the company completely after a backstage scuffle with Jack Perry at All In: London in August 2023.

The former AEW World Champion jumped ship to WWE three months later, re-debuting for the company he left in 2014 at Survivor Series 2023. Nonetheless, Punk's AEW history remains a fractious, divisive issue among wrestling fans, and there's no way a man of Punk's savvy wouldn't have anticipated the response a quote like "I wasted some matches on some people" will receive.
