If WWE Superstars Were Football Teams...

14. Bob Backlund - Uruguay

Bob Backlund was one of the biggest stars of the WWF (then the WWWF) in the pre-nationalised era. The All-American held the organisation's premier strap for nigh on six years, and in the period was virtually untouchable.

By 1994, Backlund's glory days were nothing but a distant memory. So it came as a huge surprise when he stormed back into the promotion and reclaimed the world title once more, eleven years after he last held the belt.

Like Uruguay's unexpected surge to the World Cup semi-finals in 2010, Backlund's second reign surprised everybody. Uruguay - with a population of just under 3.5 million - had not rippled the waters of world football since their last World Cup victories in the 1950s. The chances of further major success for either so long after their greatest achievements seemed slim.

Just goes to show, never give up hope! Keep trying, and you might get the opportunity to be squashed in 7 seconds by Diesel.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
