IMPACT Wrestling Slammiversary 2021: 10 Things That Must Happen
2. Kenny Omega Retains The World Championship
Yes, Sami Callihan would almost certainly garner an intense pop if he were to dethrone Kenny Omega, this supposed outsider who's taken the IMPACT World Championship hostage and allowed it to be worn by members of his Super Elite faction.
But he shouldn't do it.
Look, there's still more money to be made from having 'The Best Bout Machine' standing at the top of the IMPACT mountain, with a good few stories still to be told there, too. Everyone wants a piece of Kenny. Sami himself is even willing to risk the possibility of a numbers disadvantage by making the match no disqualification, essentially confirming the likes of Don Callis, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson, and whoever else will be involved in some capacity.
That's why he takes it all the way to Bound For Glory. He has to. Callihan is already a massive deal in IMPACT, having been a former World Champion in his own right and boasting a shedload of marquee matches to his name. He doesn't need this moment, as grand as it may be.
Someone like a Trey Miguel or a Josh Alexander would benefit far more from taking the title away from Kenny. This, again, is the sort of story Bound For Glory needs. Capitalise on what could be IMPACT's first event outside of Skyway Studios in months by waiting a tad longer for Omega's run to conclude.
