While there were several notable talking points coming out of WWE WrestleMania 41 Night 1, one of the more unfortunate ones was that Rey Mysterio was pulled from the show due to an injury suffered on SmackDown. And now, there's an update on the injury that forced the WWE Hall of Famer to miss this year's Showcase of the Immortals.

Speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, co-hosts Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez confirmed that Mysterio is dealing with a torn groin. The three-time World Champion was hopeful of being able to make his 'Mania 41 match against El Grande Americano, and there was hope in the company yesterday morning that Rey would be able to compete, but after examination, it was decided that it wasn't possible.

As for when exactly Rey Mysterio suffered this injury as he, Dragon Lee, and Rey Fenix took on the American Made trio of Chad Gable and the Creeds on Friday, Meltzer suggested it was during a relatively innocuous spot where Julius Creed pulled Mysterio out of the ring. That was the last activity from the Master of the 619 in that match, and the next thing we'd see from Mysterio was him being checked on and then helped to the back.

WrestleMania 41 Repercussions

For those who may have missed WrestleMania Saturday, this injury to Rey Mysterio called for a change to the legend's planned match against El Grande Americano. In Mysterio's place, Rey Fenix stepped up as a late replacement to face Americano.

For company newcomer Fenix, he suffered his first WWE loss, falling afoul of El Grande Americano's loaded mask. However, just as notable, if not more so, was the presence of AAA's Vikingo. With the lead to WrestleMania 41 Night 1 seeing the shocking announcement that WWE had acquired AAA, Vikingo - better known as El Hijo del Vikingo, but referred to by WWE as simply Vikingo - was in attendance for 'Mania. Not just that, but the hugely talented former AAA Mega Champion got physical as part of Fenix vs. Americano, delivering a kick to El Grande as the not-Chad-Gable taunted the crowd before the bell. Vikingo would also come to Rey Fenix's side post-match, in a move that indicates Vikingo will be a major part of whatever WWE does with AAA in the future.

As for that future, it's already been confirmed that fans will get a crossover AAA x NXT: Worlds Collide special on 7 July at Inglewood, California's Kia Forum.

While Rey Mysterio was forced to miss out on the WrestleMania 41 card, he was present as part of the announcement of the AAA purchase, with Vikingo, Paul Levesque, AAA President Marisela Pena, AAA GM Dorian Roldan, Filip co-founder Alberto Fasja Cohen, Penta, Rey Fenix, Andrade, Raul Mendoza, Joaquin Wilde, Legado del Fantasma, and NXT Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer also featured - all talents who have plenty of experience working in Mexico, with all but Vaquer having spent time in AAA.
