Jeff Jarrett Takes 'Indefinite Leave Of Absence' From GFW
Could this mean yet another rebranding for the beleaguered promotion?
As per an announcement on the company's official website, Global Force Wrestling Chief Creative Officer Jeff Jarrett is taking an indefinite leave of absence to concentrate on personal matters.
The news broke just a few hours after Jarrett had posted an optimistic tweet about GFW's future, which suggests he knew nothing of his forthcoming hiatus. PWInsider have since reported that Anthem's Ed Nordholm made the decision following a meeting with Jarrett yesterday afternoon, citing dissatisfaction with the company's creative direction and Jeff's "erratic behaviour" as deciding factors.
The move could have wide-reaching consequences for GFW. PWI's report suggests that June's GFW/Anthem merger was "nowhere near as completed" as was original reported, and that Jarrett still owns all trademarks relating to Global Force Wrestling. If Jeff doesn't return, there's a chance he'll take the GFW letters with him, leaving Anthem with the prospect of yet another rebranding.
Impact started operating as GFW with 2 July's Slammiversary XV pay-per-view. If Anthem have indeed been using the Global Force label without ownership, they've only succeeded in raising GFW's profile internationally. Not a good look for a promotion that has spent 2017 trying to distance themselves from their calamitous past.
