Jim Ross’ 10 Greatest WWE Signings Ever

10. Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin's first run in WWE was too short-lived for some, especially given the incredible ability that Brock Lesnar's former college roommate possessed. Benjamin was signed around the same time as Lesnar in 2000, but forged a good career for himself whilst in the ranks in WWE.

Jim Ross was the man to bring him in, identifying that his talents outside of the professional wrestling ranks could stand him in good stead for a career in the game. Benjamin was excellent at amateur level and on the track, and after a couple of years in developmental - involved in rivalries with Lesnar and a certain John Cena - he debuted on the main roster. He was brought in alongside Charlie Haas, forming a tag team in an alignment with Kurt Angle.

Benjamin enjoyed tag team title reigns with Haas in his first two years on the main roster, but he really shone when he broke into the singles ranks. Intercontinental and US title reigns followed, but he was held back somewhat by bad gimmicks and a lack of direction on the microphone. His in ring skills were perhaps the best on the roster during his tenure, but he was released in 2010 and went on to work in Japan, before returning to bolster the SmackDown roster in 2017. He's done very little of note during his second spell.
