The arranged finish was booked to see Batista win the Rumble by last eliminating Cena. Things went badly wrong when Batista hoisted Cena up for a power slam, the action then transitioning into a spot where Cena attempted to head scissor 'The Animal' out of the ring. The problem was that John followed through and Batista's feet went tumbling to the outside, followed by Cena. The result was clear, Cena had won. However, that not being the plan, officials scrambled into damage control. It was claimed both men's feet hit the outside at the same time. Vince McMahon immediately came down to the ring to restart the match, only to tear both his quads as he slid into the ring. It was embarrassing, comedic, and painful all at the same time. Vince had no choice but to sit in the ring and watch on like a toddler as Batista restarted and eliminated Cena for the win. It was not John Cena's finest hour.
