John Cena’s 10 Other Moves Of Doom
7. Diving Leg Drop
This diving attack sees Cena jump off the top turnbuckle and land the bottom side of his leg across his opponent’s back as they are leaning forward. Psicosis, Kenny Dykstra, Fandango, Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Bull Nakano all have variations of it. Initially it was odd seeing Cena on the top rope. Similar to when Ric Flair repeatedly went to the top rope for a double axe handle even though it would always end in failure.
The top rope leg drop is one of John’s moves that comes off looking awkward. It’s strange because it’s not necessarily his fault – he does the move impeccably. The issue is his opponents standing in the ring hunched over at a 90-degree angle for an excessive amount of time/selling.
You wonder if Cena even needs high-risk top rope moves, as he better off just sticking to his strength and tossing wrestlers around the ring like ragdolls. But it does help. It helped as another move he could perform on giants like The Big Show and The Great Khali.
Cena even once did his best Sabu impression with the move, hitting a diving leg drop on Wade Barrett using a steel chair on the way down to inflict even more damage.
