John Cena's 7 Night Of Champions Matches From Worst To Best
5. 2011 Vs. Alberto Del Rio
Technically, John Cena lost the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2011 against CM Punk. But since he still had his rematch clause and also because Alberto Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on CM Punk immediately after that Summer slam when, Del Rio was the man for him to face at Night of Champions 2011.
Early on, Alberto worked on the arm and shoulder of Cena. Ricardo Rodriguez, who I miss dearly, got ejected from ringside after trying to trip up John on the ropes.
Alberto thought he had the match won when he locked on his cross armbreaker, but Cena used his Superman power to lift up his opponent's body while still in the submission move to slam him down. He followed it up with an attitude adjustment and thwarted a run in by the previously ejected Rodriguez. John applied his STF and won the WWE championship by submission victory.
This marked John's 10th WWE championship victory.
I typically favor singles matches over multi-man matches, and while this was an above-average match, it was pretty slow in the middle at times. For that reason, it doesn't rank as high on this list as the other singles matches.
