Macho Man Randy Savage DVD Review: 16 Things You Should Know

5. A Critical And Commercial Success

As WWF Champion from 1988 until 1989, Savage was a critical success and the WWF continued to do big business. He had another big legacy, as he was viewed as the guy who opened up doors for smaller more wrestling orientated workers. "I remember when Randy lost the title," Bret Hart says, "I made a point to thank him, I went to his dressing room and told him what a great champion he'd been." Later on, in the early 90's, Savage found greater commercial success as the face of Slim Jim. You see his perfectionism in force again, as the documentary reveals archive footage where he goes through take after take to perfect his Slim Jim advertisements. Sales ended up doubling with Randy as the brand ambassador. The documentary also covers Randy's extensive charity work.
