Macho Man Randy Savage's 10 Best Matches Ever
6. Vs. Diamond Dallas Page (Halloween Havoc 1997)
Depending on your tastes, this could easily be viewed as Savage's last great match ever. Really, he was almost 45 here, and had taken enough gratuitous bumps to make most 30-year-olds call it a career. To still have been delivering on this level was a testament to his unparalleled talent.
The "Las Vegas Sudden Death Match" was basically just a last man standing match, with DDP and Savage pulling out every gimmick in the book to sell their year-long conflict. The match itself combines the lawlessness of ECW with the drama of a well-crafted WWE-style main event. Even the extended periods of a wrestler being counted down don't slow the match down any.
Because it's 1997 WCW, there has to be a contrived finish, this one involving an impostor Sting cracking DDP in his permanently-broken (so it seemed) ribcage. Both men were electric here, especially Savage in his retro-fantastic heel glory. If he were ten years younger, Savage in Attitude Era WWE would've been a thrill.
