Macho Man Randy Savage's 10 Best Matches Ever
7. Vs. Ted Dibiase (Madison Square Garden, 6/25/88)
In the day, many Madison Square Garden matches would air on later editions of Prime Time Wrestling, while the main event bouts would only be seen by those watching live. Thankfully, the home video market was treated to this one several times over, a steel cage match for Savage's WWE Championship, with plenty of genuine drama.
For those who know of Virgil only as a living meme, behold the role he plays as intruding roadblock, doing all he can to prevent Savage's escape. By the end of the match, the fans are so apoplectic that one misguided soul jumps the rail and climbs the cage to try and even the odds on Savage's behalf. Thankfully, security dragged him down before Savage himself could slug him, thus ruining the babyface illusion.
The heat and the climbing drama wove beautifully with some spectacular bumps from both men inside the ring. When you have two top talents who are aces at selling, and a simple story of Macho fighting unfair odds, you're going to get a classic. The nuclear crowd could only aid it.
