Major Backstage Update On Colt Cabana's AEW Dynamite Appearance

New details emerge on Boom Boom's return to AEW programming.

With Colt Cabana making his shocking AEW return on last night's Dynamite, there now comes some further information on this appearance from Boom Boom.

As per Mike Johnson over at PWInsider.com, Cabana's appearance on AEW's Wednesday night flagship is currently planned to be a one-off. Moving forward, the two-time ROH Tag Team Champion is still very much viewed as part of the Ring of Honor roster rather than last night's outing being part of a plan to reintroduce Cabana to AEW programming in a more permanent role.

Instead of being the first step in bringing Colt back into the AEW fold in a regular role, this shocking return for the one-time Dark Order man was said to be more about simply giving Chris Jericho another familiar ROH face to beat.

For those who missed it, Cabana answered Jericho's open challenge for any former Ring of Honor title holder to step up and face the Ocho for the ROH World Title. In a fun TV match, Jericho scored the win over the Chicago native by nailing him with the Judas Effect after nine minutes.

Prior to this appearance, Colt Cabana last competed on AEW TV way back in November of last year, losing to Bryan Danielson on the Thanksgiving edition of Dynamite. That's not to say that Cabana has been totally inactive for AEW during the time since then, for he's had a handful of AEW Dark matches, plus wrestled for the company as part of AEW's presence at Gamescom in Germany this past August.

As alluded to, Colt is these days viewed as a Ring of Honor talent, as shown by his outings at the Supercard of Honor and Death Before Dishonor PPVs earlier this year - where he picked up singles wins over Blake Christian and Anthony Henry, respectively.

WWE Is Watching...

It was previously speculated that the lack of Colt Cabana on AEW programming was down to CM Punk. Having been best friends for years, the two grapplers famously had a major falling out following the Dr. Chris Amman trial. Adding fuel to the speculative fire, Punk's arrival in All Elite Wrestling coincidentally coincided with Cabana's disappearance from AEW TV.

Interestingly, the ever reliable @WrestleVotes today noted how Colt Cabana's AEW Dynamite outing didn't go unnoticed by "Stamford". The implication there, of course, with WWE rumoured to have interest in signing the Straight-Edge Superstar, is that Cabana's appearance is yet a further indicator that CM Punk's time with AEW is done and that the Second City Saint will at some point become a free agent - any non-compete clause permitting.
