Marty Scurll Issues Statement Following Abuse Allegations

Ring Of Honor's Marty Scurll has released a statement in response to allegations of sexual abuse made public via the ongoing #SpeakingOut movement.

Scurll posted the following to Twitter on Tuesday evening:-

This came two days after Twitter user @mystickttn accused Scurll of sexually abusing her when she was 16 years old and under the influence of alcohol, recounting an incident that allegedly went down in January 2015.

The second paragraph of Scurll's statement is a near word-for-word replica of the mea culpa Kobe Bryant issued when his sexual assault case was dropped in September 2004.

Scurll, 31, has been a notable figure on the global wrestling scene for several years now. First rising to prominence in England's PROGRESS Wrestling in the mid-2010s, he started making waves in the US with PWG in 2015, then signed with Ring of Honor the following year. This deal allowed him to make inroads into New Japan and he has since become ROH's lead booker, signing a lucrative new contract with the promotion in January 2020.

Ring of Honor has lain completely dormant since the global health crisis kicked in, not running a single empty arena show.
