Miro On Being Branded An Ex-WWE Guy: "God Made Me, Not Vince McMahon"

The former AEW TNT Champion doesn't want you tagging him with the "ex-WWE" brush.

All Elite Wrestling star Miro has no time for the "ex-WWE guy" stigma attached to wrestlers that cross over from Vince McMahon's promotion to Tony Khan's.

The former TNT Champion, who hasn't been with WWE since being released due to "budget cuts" in April 2020, spoke on this during a recent interview on The Zaslow Show.

Miro said that his God created him, not Vince McMahon, which plays into his television character, dismissing the stigma outright (h/t WrestleZone):-

“CM Punk and Bryan Danielson and me, [Jon Moxley], none of these guys — we’re not ‘WWE guys’ as everyone calls it. These people have been around the world way before WWE, so when somebody says ‘this guy is [ex] WWE’, it’s absolutely incorrect. God made me, not Vince McMahon, so [WWE] was just a place to do professional wrestling because there was no other options. But now there’s plenty of other options, exciting options. AEW is the best wrestling company in the world and we prove that day in and day out.”

AEW's talent roster features dozens of wrestlers who once plied their trade in WWE, including former World Champions Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho. Last week's Full Gear 2021 pay-per-view was the first to feature a main event contested by two wrestlers with no WWE main roster runs on their records.

Nonetheless, the argument that AEW relies too heavily on ex-WWE performers is rarely made in good faith. Miro himself is an excellent example of how such wrestlers can thrive in a new environment, having reinvented himself as the God-fearing 'Redeemer' in 2021, delivering acclaimed work throughout the year.
