MJF has tweeted that he doesn't understand why wrestling fans get upset when WWE and AEW mention or reference each other, offering some, uhhh, unique advice for those who want to be treated like children.

The former AEW World Champion posted to Twitter on Monday evening:

I truly don’t get why fans get up in arms when WWE mentions or references AEW. Or when AEW mentions or references WWE. If you want to be treated like children, watch Elmo. Or better yet. Tell VKM to start a new promotion.

This followed an episode of Raw that saw John Cena and Cody Rhodes both mention the latter's spell in AEW during their show-opening in-ring promo battle. “I make empires for billionaires, all you’ve ever done is steal money from their kids," said Cena, referencing AEW boss Tony Khan.

Last week's WWE SmackDown also saw a less-than-covert AEW reference when Damian Priest laid Drew McIntyre out on a car windshield. CM Punk walked past shortly afterwards, nudge-nudge, wink-winking towards the infamous backstage All In 2023 scrap between Punk and Jack Perry, which started over Jack's alleged use of "real glass" in an AEW stunt. "Cry me a river," etc.

AEW has never been shy of needling WWE either, but regardless of the side the barbs are coming from, the references typically get a big response online. This often contrasts with the arena's reaction, as proven by the near-silence Punk's occasional AEW references in promos garner from live audiences.

As for Vince McMahon starting a new wrestling promotion, as unlikely as this still seems, anyone looking to be treated like a baby would almost certainly be satiated by the former WWE Chairman and CEO's rancid creative.

MJF was not booked for this weekend's AEW Dynasty 2025 pay-per-view at the time of writing, though the possibility of a match with rival 'Hangman' Adam Page remains open.
